وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " قِيلَ لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ادْخُلُوا الْبَابَ سُجَّدًا وَقُولُوا حِطَّةٌ نَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ خَطَايَاكُمْ سورة البقرة آية 58 ، فَبَدَّلُوا ، فَدَخَلُوا الْبَابَ يَزْحَفُونَ عَلَى أَسْتَاهِهِمْ ، وَقَالُوا : حَبَّةٌ فِي شَعْرَةٍ " .
And the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) explained the command of Allah, "Enter the gate prostrating," by saying that the Children of Israel were told to enter the city dragging themselves on their buttocks and to say, "Hittah" (O Allah, forgive us), but they changed this word and began to say, "Habbah fi sha'rah" (we want grains of barley).
