Hadith 8181

وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ ، إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ " ، قَالُوا : إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ! قَالَ : " إِنِّي لَسْتُ فِي ذَاكُمْ مِثْلُكُمْ ، إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي ، فَاكْلَفُوا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا لَكُمْ بِهِ طَاقَةٌ " .
And the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Protect yourselves from fasting continuously with only one pre-dawn meal (suhoor)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this twice. The noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), you fast continuously in this manner." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are not like me in this matter. I spend the night in such a state that my Lord Himself feeds me and gives me drink. Therefore, take upon yourselves only as much as you have the strength to bear."
