Hadith 8172

وَبِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ : وَبِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : جَاءَ مَلَكُ الْمَوْتِ إِلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام فَقَالَ لَهُ : أَجِبْ رَبَّكَ ، قَالَ : فَلَطَمَ مُوسَى عَيْنَ مَلَكِ الْمَوْتِ فَفَقَأَهَا ، قَالَ : فَرَجَعَ الْمَلَكُ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّكَ أَرْسَلْتَنِي إِلَى عَبْدٍ لَكَ لَا يُرِيدُ الْمَوْتَ ، وَقَدْ فَقَأَ عَيْنِي . قَالَ : فَرَدَّ اللَّهُ عَيْنَهُ ، وَقَالَ : " ارْجِعْ إِلَى عَبْدِي ، فَقُلْ : الْحَيَاةَ تُرِيدُ ؟ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تُرِيدُ الْحَيَاةَ ، فَضَعْ يَدَكَ عَلَى مَتْنِ ثَوْرٍ فَمَا تَوَارَتْ بِيَدِكَ مِنْ شَعْرَةٍ فَإِنَّكَ تَعِيشُ بِهَا سَنَةً " . قَالَ : ثُمَّ مَهْ ؟ قَالَ : " ثُمَّ تَمُوتُ " ، قَالَ : فَالْآنَ مِنْ قَرِيبٍ ، قَالَ : رَبِّ أَدْنِنِي مِنَ الْأَرْضِ الْمُقَدَّسَةِ رَمْيَةً بِحَجَرٍ " ، قَالَ : وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : وَاللَّهِ لَوْ أَنِّي عِنْدَهُ ، لَأَرَيْتُكُمْ قَبْرَهُ إِلَى جَنْبِ الطَّرِيقِ عِنْدَ الْكَثِيبِ الْأَحْمَرِ " .
And the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Angel of Death was sent to Musa (peace be upon him) to seize his soul, and when he reached him, Musa (peace be upon him) struck him a blow and gouged out his eye. The Angel returned to Allah and said: You have sent me to a servant who does not want to die, and he has gouged out my eye. Allah restored his eye and said: Go back to him and say: If you desire life, then place your hand on the back of an ox; for every hair that your hand covers, you will be granted one year of life. Musa (peace be upon him) asked: O Lord, then what will happen? Allah said: Then death will come. He said: Then let it be now. Then Musa (peace be upon him) requested Allah to bring him close to Bayt al-Maqdis by the distance of a stone’s throw. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I were there, I would show you his grave beneath the red sandhill by the side of the road.
