Abdullah bin Al-Harith says that once Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Makkah Mukarramah and camped at a place called Qudayd. Horse meat was brought to him in large pots. Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) called Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came while dusting off his hands, but he did not eat that food. The people also withheld their hands. Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Is there anyone from the tribe of Ashja’ present here? Do you know that a Bedouin once presented some ostrich eggs and dried meat of a wild animal to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Feed this to your family, for we are in the state of Ihram.” The people said, why not. Seeing this, Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) got up from the dining spread and went to his tent, saying that now a dislike has arisen in this for us as well.
