Hadith 8092

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ ؟ " ، قَالُوا : مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ . قَالَ : " إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ ، الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهَادَةٌ ، وَالْبَطَنُ شَهَادَةٌ ، وَالْغَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ ، وَالنُّفَسَاءُ شَهَادَةٌ ، وَالطَّاعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once asked the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them), "Whom do you consider a martyr among yourselves?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, "The one who is killed while fighting in the way of Allah." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If it were so, then the number of martyrs in my Ummah would be very few. Being killed in Jihad in the way of Allah is also martyrdom, dying due to a stomach illness is also martyrdom, drowning in water is also martyrdom, dying due to plague is also martyrdom, and a woman dying in the state of childbirth is also martyrdom."
