It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was walking with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in the garden of one of the people of Madinah, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Abu Huraira! The people who have abundance of wealth have been ruined, except for those who distribute it with both hands, to the right, to the left, and in front, but such people are very few. Then after walking for a while, he said: Abu Huraira! Shall I not tell you of a treasure from the treasures of Paradise? I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), why not? He said: Say: La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah wa la malja’a min Allah illa ilayh. Then after walking for a while, he said: Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him), do you know what right people have upon Allah, and what right Allah has upon people? I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah’s right upon people is that they worship Him alone and do not associate anything with Him, and when they do this, their right upon Allah is that He does not punish them.
