Hadith 7957

حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَجْلَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قِيلَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَيُّ النَّاسِ خَيْرٌ ؟ قَالَ : " أَنَا وَمَنْ مَعِي " ، قَالَ : فَقِيلَ لَهُ : ثُمَّ مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " الَّذِي عَلَى الْأَثَرِ " ، قِيلَ لَهُ : ثُمَّ مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : فَرَفَضَهُمْ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once someone asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! Who is the best of people?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "I and my companions." He was asked, "Who after them?" He replied, "Those who will come after us." He was asked, "And after them?" So the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left it at that.
