حَدَّثَنَا

أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ
مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ
أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : " فُقِدَ
سِبْطٌ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ، وَذَكَرَ الْفَأْرَةَ ، فَقَالَ : أَلَا تَرَى أَنَّكَ لَوْ أَدْنَيْتَ مِنْهَا لَبَنَ الْإِبِلِ لَمْ تَقْرَبْهُ ؟ وَإِنْ قَرَّبْتَ إِلَيْهَا لَبَنَ الْغَنَمِ شَرِبَتْهُ ؟ " فَقَالَ : أَكَذَا سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : " أَفَأَقْرَأُ التَّوْرَاةَ ؟ ! " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that a group from the Children of Israel went missing and no one could find out where they went. I think that they became mice. Do you not observe that if camel’s milk is placed before a mouse, it does not drink it, but if goat’s milk is placed before it, it drinks it? Upon this, Ka’b Ahbar (may Allah have mercy on him), who was a newly converted Jewish scholar, said: “Did you hear this hadith directly from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)?” I replied, “Do I read the Torah?”
