حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وأبِي بَكْر بن أبي حَثْمَة ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الظُّهْرَ أَوْ الْعَصْرَ ، فَسَلَّمَ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ ذُو الشِّمَالَيْنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ عَمْرٍو ، وَكَانَ حَلِيفًا لِبَنِي زُهْرَةَ : أَخُفِّفَتْ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا يَقُولُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ ؟ " ، قَالُوا : صَدَقَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ . فَأَتَمَّ بِهِمْ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ نَقَصَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Zuhr or Asr prayer and after offering two rak'ahs, he concluded the prayer with salam. Upon this, Dhul-Yadain bin Abd Amr, who was an ally of Banu Zuhrah, said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), did you forget or were the rak'ahs of the prayer reduced?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the companions (may Allah be pleased with them), "Is it as Dhul-Yadain is saying?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) affirmed it. Upon this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the two rak'ahs that had been left out.
