Hadith 760

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أَبِيعَ غُلَامَيْنِ أَخَوَيْنِ ، فَبِعْتُهُمَا ، فَفَرَّقْتُ بَيْنَهُمَا ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَدْرِكْهُمَا فَأَرتَجِعْهُمَا ، وَلَا تَبِعْهُمَا إِلَّا جَمِيعًا " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) once ordered me to sell two slaves; they were brothers to each other. I sold them to two different men, and then came and informed the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Go back and return them, and sell both of them together to one man." (So that there remains some closeness and affection between them.)
