It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to supplicate against someone or pray for someone, he would recite Qunoot after bowing (ruku’). After saying "Sami’ Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal hamd," he would supplicate: "O Allah, grant deliverance to Waleed bin Waleed, Salamah bin Hisham, ‘Ayyash bin Abi Rabi’ah, and the other weak ones in Makkah Mukarramah from the oppression and tyranny of the Quraysh. O Allah! Seize the tribe of Mudar severely and inflict upon them a famine like that in the time of Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would make this supplication in a loud voice, and sometimes in the Fajr prayer he would mention the names of two Arab tribes and say: "O Allah, send Your curse upon so-and-so and so-and-so," until Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: "You have no authority in this matter; Allah may turn to them in mercy or punish them, for they are wrongdoers."
