(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الثَّيِّبُ تُسْتَأْمَرُ فِي نَفْسِهَا ، وَالْبِكْرُ تُسْتَأْذَنُ " ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، كَيْفَ إِذْنُهَا ؟ قَالَ : " أَنْ تَسْكُتَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Permission should be sought from a virgin girl for marriage, and consultation should be done with a previously married woman. Someone asked: O Messenger of Allah! (A virgin girl feels shy) so how should her permission be obtained? The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Her silence is a sign of her consent.
