It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in a prayer—we think it was the Fajr prayer. After finishing the prayer, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Did any of you recite (Qur'an)?" One man said, "I recited." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "That is why I was wondering why there was a dispute with me in the Qur'an." Imam Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) says that after this, people stopped reciting behind the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the audible prayers. The narrator of the hadith, Sufyan, says that this last sentence remained hidden from me (I could not hear it).
