(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ زُبَيْدٍ الْإِيَامِيِّ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ جَيْشًا ، وَأَمَّرَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَجُلًا ، فَأَوْقَدَ نَارًا ، فَقَالَ : ادْخُلُوهَا ، فَأَرَادَ نَاسٌ أَنْ يَدْخُلُوهَا ، وَقَالَ آخَرُونَ : إِنَّمَا فَرَرْنَا مِنْهَا ، فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لِلَّذِينَ أَرَادُوا أَنْ يَدْخُلُوهَا : " لَوْ دَخَلْتُمُوهَا لَمْ تَزَالُوا فِيهَا إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ " ، وَقَالَ لِلْآخَرِينَ قَوْلًا حَسَنًا ، وَقَالَ : " لَا طَاعَةَ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّمَا الطَّاعَةُ فِي الْمَعْرُوفِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent out an army and appointed an Ansari as their commander. He lit a fire and said, "Enter this fire." The people were just considering jumping into it when a young man said, "It is from this very fire that we have fled and taken refuge with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." So the entire incident was reported to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to those who intended to enter it, "If you had entered it once, you would never have come out of it again." And praising the others, he said: "There is no obedience to anyone in disobedience to Allah. Obedience is only in good deeds."
