(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلَا أُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِخَيْرِكُمْ ؟ " قَالُوا : نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " خِيَارُكُمْ أَطْوَلُكُمْ أَعْمَارًا ، وَأَحْسَنُكُمْ أَعْمَالًا " . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ : سَأَلْتُ أَبِي ، عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، وَسُهيْلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ؟ قَالَ : لَمْ أَسْمَعْ أَحَدًا ذَكَرَ الْعَلَاءَ إِلَّا بِخَيْرٍ ، وَقَدَّمَ أَبَا صَالِحٍ عَلَى الْعَلَاءِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you who among you is the best?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best among you are those whose lives are long and whose deeds are the best."
