Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the day of Friday comes, the devils come out from their places and try to keep people busy in the markets. They have some flags with them. On the other hand, the angels sit at the doors of the mosques and write down the rewards for people according to their ranks: for the first, for the second, and for those who come after, until the Imam comes out. So whoever sits close to the Imam, sits silently, listens attentively to his words, and does not engage in any idle activity, for him there is double reward. And whoever sits far from the Imam but still sits silently, listens attentively, and does not engage in any idle activity, for him there is single reward. And whoever sits close to the Imam but engages in useless activities, does not sit silently, nor listens attentively to his words, for him there is single sin. And whoever says "be quiet" to someone to silence him, he too has spoken, and whoever speaks during the sermon will not receive any reward for Friday. Then he said: I heard this from your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in this way.
