Hadith 7144

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ الْمُهَلَّبِيُّ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " إِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ ، فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا ، وَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا ، وَإِذَا قَالَ : سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ، فَقُولُوا : رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ ، فَإِذَا صَلَّى جَالِسًا ، فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا أَجْمَعِينَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Imam is appointed so that he may be followed, so when he says the takbeer, you should also say the takbeer; when he bows (in ruku), you should also bow; when he says "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah," you should say "Rabbana lakal hamd"; and when he performs the prayer sitting, then all of you should also perform the prayer sitting.
