Hadith 6915

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ فَيَّاضٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عِيَاضٍ ، سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " صُمْ يَوْمًا وَلَكَ أَجْرُ مَا بَقِيَ " حَتَّى عَدَّ أَرْبَعَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ خَمْسَةً ، شُعْبَةُ يَشُكُّ ، قَالَ : " صُمْ أَفْضَلَ الصَّوْمِ ، صَوْمَ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام ، كَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: "Fast one day and you will receive the reward of the remaining days." The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned up to four and five days, and said: "Fast like Sayyiduna Dawud (peace be upon him); he used to fast one day and leave one day."
