It is narrated from Urwah bin Zubair, may Allah have mercy on him, that once I said to Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, "Tell me about any severe incident that the polytheists inflicted upon the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him." He said, "One day the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was praying in the courtyard of the Ka'bah when Aqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt came. He grabbed the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, by the shoulder and wrapped a cloth around the blessed neck of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and began to strangle him forcefully. When Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, found out, he immediately came and grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him away, saying: 'Do you want to kill a man just because he says, "My Lord is Allah," while he has also brought clear proofs to you from your Lord?'"
