(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ حَنَشٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ لِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا تَقَدَّمَ إِلَيْكَ خَصْمَانِ ، فَلَا تَسْمَعْ كَلَامَ الْأَوَّلِ ، حَتَّى تَسْمَعَ كَلَامَ الْآخَرِ ، فَسَوْفَ تَرَى كَيْفَ تَقْضِي " ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : فَمَا زِلْتُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ قَاضِيًا .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "When two parties come to you, do not listen to only one of them, rather listen to both of them; you will see how you judge." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that after this, I continuously remained in the position of judge.
