(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَجُلٌ فِي بَيْتِ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو ، يُحَدِّثُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ سَمَّعَ النَّاسَ بِعَمَلِهِ ، سَمَّعَ اللَّهُ بِهِ سَامِعَ خَلْقِهِ ، وَصَغَّرَهُ وَحَقَّرَهُ " ، قَالَ : فَذَرَفَتْ عَيْنَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Whoever seeks fame among people through his deeds, Allah hands him over to that (fame) and humiliates and disgraces him. Upon hearing this, tears began to flow from the eyes of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him).
