Hadith 6780

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَامِرٌ الْأَحْوَلُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا نَذْرَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ ، وَلَا عِتْقَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ ، وَلَا طَلَاقَ لَهُ فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ ، وَلَا يَمِينَ فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A person does not have the right to divorce a woman whom he does not own (through marriage or purchase), nor does a person have the authority to free someone who is not his slave, nor does he have the right to make a vow regarding something he does not own, nor is an oath regarding something not owned by him considered valid."
