Hadith 6592

Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a certain person once intended that in the future he should be called "Junadah bin Abi Umayyah" (even though Abu Umayyah was not his father's name). When Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) found out, he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever attributes himself to someone other than his father will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise, even though the fragrance of Paradise can be perceived from a distance of seventy years." And he said: "Whoever falsely attributes something to me should make his abode in Hell."
