Hadith 65

(حديث موقوف) حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُؤَمَّلِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رُبَّمَا سَقَطَ الْخِطَامُ مِنْ يَدِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ ، قَالَ : فَيَضْرِبُ بِذِرَاعِ نَاقَتِهِ فَيُنِيخُهَا فَيَأْخُذُهُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالُوا لَهُ : أَفَلَا أَمَرْتَنَا نُنَاوِلُكَهُ ؟ فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ حَبِيبِي رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ لَا أَسْأَلَ النَّاسَ شَيْئًا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abi Mulaykah (may Allah have mercy on him) that if the rein of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq’s (may Allah be pleased with him) camel slipped from his hand and fell, he would strike the front leg of his camel, it would sit down, and he would pick up the rein himself. We said, “Why do you not order us to hand it to you?” He replied: “My beloved (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded me not to ask anyone for anything.”
