Ata bin Saib, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once Muharib bin Dithar said to me: "What have you heard Sa'id bin Jubayr, may Allah have mercy on him, say regarding al-Kawthar from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him?" I said: "I heard him say that it means abundant good." Muharib said: "Subhan Allah! The statement of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, cannot be so insignificant. I heard Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, say that when Surah al-Kawthar was revealed, the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Al-Kawthar is the name of a river in Paradise, whose water flows over pebbles of pearls and rubies. Its water is sweeter than honey, whiter than milk, colder than snow, and more fragrant than musk.'" Upon hearing this, Muharib said: "Then indeed Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, has spoken the truth, for by Allah, it is indeed abundant good." End of the Musnad of Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.
