It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a gold ring made. He would turn its stone towards the palm of his hand. The people also had rings made, upon which the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw it away while on the pulpit and said: "I used to wear this ring and would turn its stone inward towards my palm. By Allah, I will never wear it again." Consequently, the people also threw away their rings.
