Hadith 6340

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever lets his lower garment hang below his ankles out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection. He (Ibn Umar) said: Once I was present in the court of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and my lower garment was hanging down. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who is this? I replied: Abdullah bin Umar. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you are Abdullah, then raise your lower garment." So I raised it up to the middle of my shins. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked towards Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and said: "Whoever drags his clothes on the ground out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sometimes one corner of my garment hangs down, although I try hard (to keep it up)? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are not among those who do this out of arrogance."
