It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that during the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), whenever anyone saw a dream, he would relate it before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I wished that I too would see a dream and relate it before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). At that time, I was an unmarried youth and used to sleep in the Prophet’s Mosque. Eventually, one day I did see a dream, and it was that two angels came and took hold of me and began to lead me towards Hell. It was encircled like a well, and it seemed as if it had two horns. I saw some people in it whom I recognized. I kept saying, “I seek refuge in Allah from the Fire.” Meanwhile, another angel met those two angels and said to me, “Do not be afraid.” I mentioned this dream to my sister, Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyidah Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), and she related it to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Abdullah is a good man; if only he would pray at night.” Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that after this, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) would sleep very little at night.
