Hadith 6252

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلٌ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , يَقُولُ : " لَا تَمْنَعُوا ، يَعْنِي : نِسَاءَكُمْ ، الْمَسَاجِدَ إِذَا اسْتَأْذَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْهَا " ، قَالَ بِلَالُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ : وَاللَّهِ لَنَمْنَعُهُنَّ , فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حِينَ قَالَ ذَلِكَ , فَسَبَّهُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: When women ask you for permission to go to the mosque, do not stop them. Upon this, Bilal bin Abdullah said: By Allah, we will certainly stop them. So Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) turned towards him and rebuked him harshly.
