Hadith 6213

Imam Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I used to go to and come from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) for about one and a half to two years, but during this period I did not hear any hadith from him except this one. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Once we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a lizard was brought. People began to eat it. One of the noble wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called out and said that this is the meat of a lizard. (Upon hearing this, the companions stopped.) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Eat it, it is lawful and there is no harm in eating it, but it is not something I eat. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself refrained.
