Abu al-Rabi’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I was present at a funeral with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). He heard the sound of a man crying out and wailing in his ears, so he sent a man to him and made him quiet. I asked him, “O Abu Abdur Rahman, why did you make him quiet?” He replied: “As long as the deceased has not been placed in the grave, he is harmed by this.” I asked him again, “Sometimes I pray the morning prayer with you at such a time that after saying salam, I cannot see the face of the man sitting next to me, and sometimes you pray when there is plenty of light?” He replied: “I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) praying in this way, and I love to pray in the same way as I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) praying.”
