Hadith 6169

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَبْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , كَيْفَ صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " مَثْنَى مَثْنَى ، فَإِذَا خِفْتَ الصُّبْحَ فَأَوْتِرْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! How should the night prayer be performed?" He replied: "You should pray in sets of two rak'ahs, and when you fear that morning is near, then add one rak'ah as witr to those two."
