Hadith 6167

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي صَالِحُ بْنُ كَيْسَانَ ، أَنَّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ نَافِعًا أَخْبَرَهُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " إِنَّمَا يُحْسَدُ مَنْ يُحْسَدُ ، أَوْ كَمَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ ، عَلَى خَصْلَتَيْنِ رَجُلٌ أَعْطَاهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى الْقُرْآنَ ، فَهُوَ يَقُومُ بِهِ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ ، وَرَجُلٌ أَعْطَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالًا ، فَهُوَ يُنْفِقُهُ " .
This prophetic saying is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that envy (desire) is not permissible towards anyone except two persons: one is the person whom Allah has granted the wealth of the Qur'an and he remains engaged in its recitation day and night; and the other is the person whom Allah has granted wealth and property and has enabled him to spend it in the path of truth.
