It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a ring made of gold. When people saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they also had gold rings made. One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and said, "I used to wear this ring." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw it away, and the people also threw away their rings.
