Hadith 596

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا أُعْطِيكُمْ ، وَأَدَعُ أَهْلَ الصُّفَّةِ تَلَوَّى بُطُونُهُمْ مِنَ الْجُوعِ " ، وَقَالَ مَرَّةً : " لَا أُخْدِمُكُمَا ، وَأَدَعُ أَهْلَ الصُّفَّةِ تَطْوَى " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not possible that I keep giving to you and leave the people of Suffa, whose stomachs have sunk in due to hunger."
