Hadith 5864

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ , أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَمَرَ بِحَدِّ الشِّفَارِ ، وَأَنْ تُوَارَى عَنِ الْبَهَائِمِ , وَإِذَا ذَبَحَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيُجْهِزْ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that knives should be sharpened beforehand, and that knives should be kept hidden from the animals, and that when any of you is about to slaughter an animal, he should slaughter it quickly (and avoid causing the animal to suffer).
