Hadith 5829

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ ، قَالَ : قِيلَ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ : إِنَّا نَدْخُلُ عَلَى أُمَرَائِنَا ، فَنَقُولُ الْقَوْلَ ، فَإِذَا خَرَجْنَا قُلْنَا غَيْرَهُ ؟ ! فَقَالَ : كُنَّا نَعُدُّ هَذَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ النِّفَاقَ .
Abu Al-Sha’tha’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once a person asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "We go to our rulers and say something, and when we come out, we say something else?" Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: "In the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to consider this as hypocrisy."
