It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a silk garment being sold at the door of the mosque, so he said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! If you were to buy this, you could wear it on Fridays or when delegations come to you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is worn by the one who has no share in the Hereafter." A few days later, some silk garments came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from somewhere, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent one of those garments to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You yourself said what I heard regarding this, and now you have sent me this silk garment?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have sent it to you so that you may sell it and use its price for yourself, or dress someone else in it." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave that garment to his maternal brother, who was a polytheist and lived in Makkah.
