Hadith 5790

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْمُنَافِقِ مَثَلُ الشَّاةِ الْعَائِرَةِ بَيْنَ الْغَنَمَيْنِ ، تَعِيرُ إِلَى هَذِهِ مَرَّةً ، وَإِلَى هَذِهِ مَرَّةً ، لَا تَدْرِي أَيَّهُمَا تَتْبَعُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of a hypocrite is like that of a goat between two herds; sometimes it goes to one herd and sometimes to the other, not knowing which of these herds it should join."
