Hadith 5728

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ : " الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى ، الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا الْمُعْطِيَةُ ، وَالْيَدُ السُّفْلَى , يَدُ السَّائِلِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said while delivering a sermon: "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. The upper hand means the one who gives, and the lower hand means the one who asks."
