(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : كَسَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حُلَّةً مِنْ حُلَلِ السِّيَرَاءِ ، أَهْدَاهَا لَهُ فَيْرُوزُ ، فَلَبِسْتُ الْإِزَارَ ، فَأَغْرَقَنِي طُولًا وَعَرْضًا ، فَسَحَبْتُهُ ، وَلَبِسْتُ الرِّدَاءَ ، فَتَقَنَّعْتُ بِهِ ، فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعَاتِقِي ، فَقَالَ : يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بن عمر ، " ارْفَعْ الْإِزَارَ ، فَإِنَّ مَا مَسَّتْ الْأَرْضُ مِنَ الْإِزَارِ إِلَى مَا أَسْفَلَ مِنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ فِي النَّارِ " ، قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ : فَلَمْ أَرَ إِنْسَانًا قَطُّ أَشَدَّ تَشْمِيرًا مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gifted me one of the silk garments from among those silk garments which Firoz had presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I tied the lower garment (waist-wrapper), and it alone covered me in length and width. I wrapped it and put a sheet over it, and wearing it, I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) caught hold of my neck and said: "O Abdullah! Raise your lower garment. Whatever part of the trousers hangs below the ankles will be in the Hellfire." Abdullah bin Muhammad, the narrator, says that after this, I never saw any person more careful about keeping his ankles uncovered than Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
