(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَجُلٌ يَمْدَحُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : فَجَعَلَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ : هَكَذَا ، يَحْثُو فِي وَجْهِهِ التُّرَابَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ الْمَدَّاحِينَ ، فَاحْثُوا فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ التُّرَابَ " .
Ata bin Abi Rabah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once someone praised Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), so he began to put dust in that person's mouth and said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, "When you see someone praising another, then throw dust in his mouth."
