It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wear a gold ring. One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and threw it away and said: "From now on, I will never wear it." Consequently, the people also took off their rings and threw them away.
