(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ : " فَعَلْتَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ " قَالَ : لَا ، وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ مَا فَعَلْتُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام : " قَدْ فَعَلَ ، وَلَكِنْ قَدْ غُفِرَ لَهُ بِقَوْلِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ " ، قَالَ حَمَّادٌ : لَمْ يَسْمَعْ هَذَا مِنَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، بَيْنَهُمَا رَجُلٌ ، يَعْنِي : ثَابِتًا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked a person, "Did you do this act?" He replied, "No. By the One besides whom there is no deity, I did not do this act." At that moment, Jibreel (peace be upon him) came and said, "He did do that act, but due to the blessing of saying «لا اله الا الله», he has been forgiven."
