Hadith 5331

(حديث مرفوع) قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : مَالِكٌ ، وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ ، أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُعَاوِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : رَآنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ وَأَنَا أَعْبَثُ بِالْحَصَى فِي الصَّلَاةِ ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ نَهَانِي ، وَقَالَ : اصْنَعْ كَمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْنَعُ ، قُلْتُ : وَكَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْنَعُ ؟ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " إِذَا جَلَسَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُمْنَى ، وَقَبَضَ أَصَابِعَهُ كُلَّهَا ، وَأَشَارَ بِإِصْبَعِهِ الَّتِي تَلِي الْإِبْهَامَ ، وَوَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُسْرَى " .
Ali bin Abdur Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saw me playing during prayer. After finishing the prayer, he forbade me from this and said: "Perform the prayer as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do." I asked, "How did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) use to do it?" He replied: "When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat in prayer, he would place his right palm on his right thigh, close all the fingers, and point with the finger next to the thumb, and he would place his left palm on his left thigh."
