Hadith 5191

Zadhan (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), "Please tell me about the vessels which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade to use, and also explain them in our language, because there is a difference between our language and yours." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade «حنتم», which means a pitcher, and also forbade «مزفت», which refers to a vessel made of luk. He also forbade «دباء», which means gourd, and «نقير», which means the date-palm wood that is hollowed out from inside. The narrator asked, "Then in which vessel do you command us to drink water?" He replied, "In water skins." According to the narrator Muhammad, he commanded us to prepare nabidh in water skins.
