Hadith 4971

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " وَمَنْ صَلَّى مِنْ أَوَّلِ اللَّيْلِ ، فَلْيَجْعَلْ آخِرَ صلاَتِهِ وِتْرًا ، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ بِذَلِكَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that whoever prays at the beginning of the night should make his last prayer of the night the Witr, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to instruct this.
