Hadith 4928

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَبَاحٌ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ صَدَقَةَ الْمَكِّيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اعْتَكَفَ وَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَمَا إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ إِذَا قَامَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّهُ يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ ، فَلْيَعْلَمْ أَحَدُكُمْ مَا يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ ، وَلَا يَجْهَرْ بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon during i'tikaf and said: "Whoever among you stands to pray, in reality he is conversing with his Lord, so you should know that you are conversing with your Lord. And do not recite aloud over one another in prayer."
