Hadith 4905

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ ، أَخْبَرَنِي الثِّقَةُ ، أَوْ مَنْ لَا أَتَّهِمُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّهُ خَطَبَ إِلَى نَسِيبٍ لَهُ ابْنَتَهُ ، قَالَ : فَكَانَ هَوَى أُمِّ الْمَرْأَةِ فِي ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، وَكَانَ هَوَى أَبِيهَا فِي يَتِيمٍ لَهُ ، قَالَ : فَزَوَّجَهَا الْأَبُ يَتِيمَهُ ذَلِكَ ، فَجَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " آمِّرُوا النِّسَاءَ فِي بَنَاتِهِنَّ " .
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that once he sent a marriage proposal for the daughter of one of his relatives. The girl's mother wanted her to marry Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), while the father wished for her to marry his orphaned nephew. Eventually, her father married her to his orphaned nephew. That woman came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned the whole story. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Consult your women also in the matter of your daughters."
