Once, when the muezzin gave the call to Asr prayer, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for water for ablution, performed ablution, and said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say that whoever performs ablution according to Allah’s command, it becomes an expiation for all his sins. After that, he took testimony on this from four companions (may Allah be pleased with them), and all four testified that indeed the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said this.
